My jewelry piece is very complicated with pieces that move and come off, I would like to send three views of the same piece in different stages. Can I do this?

"<My jewelry piece is very complicated with pieces that move and come off, I would like to send three views of the same piece in different stages. Can I do this?>" You may send in three views of the same piece, BUT only one view of that piece will be accepted. I would pick the most descriptive image of that piece and also send in two other jewelry images. That way you get three chances to get in.

Hi Metalsmith08,
All entered artists should have received an email today September1, 2008. Juried Art Services is emailing these letters for the Society for Midwest Metalsmiths so I don't know their exact timing of the e-mails. I do know they send them out in groups and they were all supposed to go out today.
You can go to the http://www.smm-metalinclinations.org site to look at the list of selected artists. I personally emailed all the award winners today. If you still have questions, e-mail: midwest.metalsmiths@gmail.com and I will try to help you.

I am confused re the need for an artist statement for each entry. Can it be the same general artist statement for all 3 entries or do I need to write a separate one that addresses each entry? I am also confused re the requirement that the materials and techniques be listed in 50 CHARACTERS or less. This means letters to me. This does not seem possible and I wonder if you meants 50 WORDS instead? Perhaps this is a typo and you meant 500 characters? Could you please clarify this as soon as possible. Thanks.

The artist's statement can be the same for all or different for each one. You can check a box to use the same on all.
If your entered images are all from the same series of work, you may want to use the same artist's statement. If your work is from a different series or created in previous years, you may want to use a different artist's statement. The judges will view each images by itself with it's own artist's statement.

Image size inconsistency

Hello, There is an inconsistency with regard to file size on the JAS website. When initially uploading files, it states that all images must be 1400 pixel min dimension and 2000 pixel max widest dimension. I sized my images to fit this parameter and proceeded to upload them. When I went to apply for the Metal Inclinations show, they say that images cannot exceed 1400 PPI in any dimension. They reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not meet these standards. Do I have to go back and resize everything again? Please advise! Thanks!!

RE: Image size inconsistency
By: ,
Jun 27 2008, 5:06 PM EDT
Hi, I am sorry for this confusion. The specifications on the JAS website changed in the middle of our "Call for Entries." It used to state a MAX of 1400 px at 300dpi. They changed it to 2000 px with a minimum of 1400 px at 300 dpi a few months ago. The 1400 px MAX size is perfectly fine for the METAL Inclinations Exhibition. We will not throw out your application if it is 1400 px. JAS works with many other exhibitions, some of which need very high resolution images for high resolution catalog printing. Since METAL Inclinations is an online exhibition and we want our images to load quickly, we will be using images smaller in size and lower res. than the ones asked for anyway.
I would suggest you send the largest images you can within the guidelines. It will give you a fair viewing by the judges.
I hope this helps you with your application.

I noticed the Metal Inclination rules state all images submitted must have the year completed entered in the appropriate text box when uploading images. Anyone have any idea where that text box might be? Or if that is a new feature and I will need to re-upload my images to fill that in?
Also, do they take your website address from the contact information for JAS or does that have to be added to the application separately? If so, where?
Thanks!

Hi again, The box to fill out for year is in the same area that asks for description and dimensions. You can sign in to JAS and click MANAGE YOUR APPLICATIONS chose the application missing the date and then edit the description by clicking EDIT under the small picture of your image.
Hope this clears the problem up for you.

The full name of the exhibition is: METAL Inclinations: An INTERNATIONAL Online Juried Exhibition of Metalwork, Jewelry and Metal Sculpture. So the answer is YES, you can live and work anywhere in the entire world. The presenting organization, The Society for Midwest Metalsmiths has always extended invitations to metalsmiths from the entire U.S. for their past exhibitions. With this 2008-2009 exhibition SMM is inviting the world to participate.
Good Luck, hope to see your work.

Yes, it's true The Society ofr Midwest Metalsmiths is planning to extend the deadline date to July 28, 2008. We have had a lot of pressure to do this. BUT the fee for the extended applications will be $50 for up to three images. The extra $10 is to cover the extra cost of the extra work to process the applications and get them ready for the jurors to view in an xcelerated time frame.

Yes, casting is considered a silversmithing and goldsmithing technique. Your pieces will be considered one-of a kind if you cast one of each design or hand finish and personalize each piece.
Good Luck, hope to see your work.
